Liver Pâté

Liver Pâté always makes a delicious starter to a meal and can be served in small pots or a scoop on the plate and then garnished with a lemon wedge and a selection of salad leaves. This pate is also delicious as a lunch dish, for picnics or just a cosy T.V. snack.

Accompaniments and Vegetarian Dishes

French Style Gratin Potatoes

Slice the potatoes thinly on a manoline or in a food processor and arrange a layer of the potato slices in the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and nutmeg and a little of the grated cheese.

Bûche de Noël

This is a traditional French cake baked for  Christmas time. Decorations vary but the cake is always a light sponge rolled and filled with chocolate buttercream – also coffee flavour or nut-buttercream can be used.

Celebratory Drinks

Hot Buttered Spirit

Adding butter to drinks may seem a little odd but it is a practice that has been used for hundreds of years. By making a spiced butter beforehand it will bring an extra quality to a hot, warming drink. For these buttered spirits you can use Whisky, Brandy or Rum all are equally delicious.

Austrian Christmas Bakes

Traditional Speciality Christmas baking recipes from the City of Dornbirn Vorarlberg Austria , these are recipes which have been handed through generations. Frau Anna Maria Wehinger held a cookery school at the turn of the last century and wrote her first cookery book containing 181 recipes, this, she later expanded on and in 1924, two years after her death her son brought out a cook book containg 1000 recipes, this was a best-seller .

Anna Maria Wehinger ( 2 June 1853 in Gestratz ; † 4 May 1922 in Dornbirn ), was the daughter of Augustin Kirchmann “In Franzebube in Ried.” In 1889, she led one of the first German speaking  cooking and housekeeping schools  and also wrote the historically well-known “Dornbirner cookbook” .
