Today’s Via del Babuino gets its name from the public fountain and statue of a reclining half man half goat which the citizens of Rome thought so ugly they named it Babuino meaning Baboon. It was from here that the street was named Via del Babuino and the name remains to this day. The statue was moved to various locations around the city but was returned back to it’s original position in 1957. The area around the Via del Babuino is a favourite place for artisits and many forgein artisits have lived and worked here making it a colourful and lively area of Rome.
I loved the hotel. The breakfast was amazing and the location is perfect. There are a number of excellent towns near by that are definitely with the visitBy: Anthony Mullis - Submitted March 3, 2016 at 9:28 am
