| From the 18th November, Vörösmarty Square is transformed into a magical festive marketplace. The traditional wooden stalls and an open air stage take over the square for the weeks leading up to Christmas (and lasts until 30th December). The famous Gerbeaud Confectionery displays an advent calendar in it’s window and each day at 17.00 a new window is opened. The smell of mulled wine, cinnamon, honey cookies waft on the air to tempt you to sample. This year there will be a wider selection of traditional Hungarian foods and cakes such as stuffed cabbage, strudels, grilled sausages and meats, cookies, and delicious kürtös kalács (pastries).
For the children there is a crib with live animals to enthrall them, and for the more artistic there is a tree decorating competition to take part in.
Even if you just fancy a stroll through the market with a glass of mulled wine, there is plenty to see and enjoy, like one of the many cultural programs on the outdoor stage.
