| Strasbourg has been holding Christkindelsmärik around its cathedral since 1570. The Christkindelsmärik, Marché de l’Enfant Jésus, is one of the oldest Christmas markets. It draws between 1.5 and 2 million visitors each year and has over sixty stalls.
The market takes place annually, from 24 November to 24 December. It mainly takes place on Place Kléber, Place Broglie, Place du Marché aux cochons de lait and around the cathedral.Strasbourg Cathdral with its Gothic towers and famous astronomical clock, is a breathtaking setting for this ancient market. There is an impressive Christmas Tree on Place Kleber and a skating rink on Place du Chateau.Make sure you visit La Petite France, a picturesque area with Christmas shops and a gingerbead bakery.Keep warm with sizzling sausages, choucroute and the well known three meat Baeckeoffe stew. The atmosphere is given a truly festive feel with christmas music being performed around the city.
