 Dresden is one of the oldest Christmas Markets, dating back to 1434. It attracts between 1.5 and 2 million visitors every year and has over 250 stalls.Held in the ‘Münzgasse’, next to the famous Church of Our Lady and the ‘Brühlsche Terrasse’ the traders are waiting to welcome you with their selection of specialities and hand-crafted goods.For the 11th time the traders will offer authentic “Plauner Spitzen”(Plauner Lace), “Freiberger” tin and pottery, wooden toys and glove puppets,there is also hand-blown glass and candles.The wonderful aroma of of fresh foods wafts on the night air, there are deep fried curd balls tossed in sugar, crêpes, gingerbread in all sorts of shapes, sugar roasted nuts, candy floss,roasted apples and to keep out the cold try the delicious hot ‘Gluhwein’ laced with a shot of rum, and of course do not forget the original ‘Dresdener Christstollen’. The romantic sight of the decorated market stands and the christmas music drifting around will make for an unforgetable Christmas atmosphere!For the children:- At 4.00pm each day Father Christmas will appear with a surprise present for each child.Other sights not to miss:- the 8 metre pyramid with life-sized wooden figures, you are able to go up the pyramid and this will give you a fantastic view over the market and the church of Our Lady.
