Nestled away in the Rhine Valley at the foot of the "Karen Mountain" in the Vorarlberg, lies the city of Dornbirn. At 437m above sea level, the "Dornbirner Ach River" flows through its veins towards Lake Constance, which you can view in all its beauty from the mountain roads which run through and around the city. The buildings in the town and scattered amongst the mountain pines are both traditional and modern. Large snow roofs cover the wooden chalets whilst inside log burners and axe heads are still used daily, however where animal heads once graced the walls, flat screen tv`s and HiFi`s have took their place.

Children still play safely along the streets and in the many swing parks around the city, and frolic in the outdoor Swimming baths, in the lovely summers day heat. The baths have a slide,childrens pool, an olympic size swimming pool, diving pool, sports pitches, cafes and a host of other child freindly activities to keep the youngsters entertained untill tea time. If visiting at winter time, their is also an indoor heated swimming pool. The mountains change from beautiful green to snow white, and skiing is only a bus ride away to the top of the mountain "Bodele".

Once tea time arrive, you can venture into the town where history is all around you. The magnificent church is the town centre peice with all the cafes and bars drawn towards it. With Austrian cuisine being some of the finest in the world you will not be disapointed where ever you eat. Next to the church you will find the cafe "Roteshaus", which gets its name from the walls which have been painted red...not just any red, but using the blood from an ox.The Karen mountain which sits behind the city, has many walks for the adventure lover, including the "rappenlochschlucht" (gauge) and for the rest of us, a cable car will take you to the top where you can view the city, aswell as looking out over Lake Constance and also where you view Austria, Switzerland and Germany together. There is also a Panaroma Restaurant which overhangs the mountain side, where you can enjoy food or just a drink, maybe "Mohrenbrau", which is the cities own beer. Nestled back into the woods lies another Austriam Gem, a small mountain cabin, which offers fresh milk, from their own cows and a collection of cheeses and meats, a must have for any visitor!

Back in the town, a campsite is also available "Camping Der Enz", a lovely site which has toilets, showers, washing machines, shop, bar, function room and open fire and swing park. The staff our very freindly and will help you in any way possible. Their is a "rolls royce" museum a "Crib" museum as well as the town museum. All in all Dornbirn is a place anyone could visit and enjoy. It is the town with something for everyone!
